Shonda Rhimes Partners with Awkward Black Girl’s Issa Rae For Sitcom!

Cool things happening for women of color in the television world! Shonda Rhimes’ production company ShondaLand is teaming up with Issa Rae (of  the YouTube/i am OTHER series Awkward Black Girl) to produce a comedy.  I Hate L.A. Dudes is a 30 minute comedy set to run on ABC. The show is about an aspiring female journalist who moves to L.A. She navigates the complicated Los Angeles dating world as she works as the sole female at a male-driven Internet talk show. Issa will be producing along with Shonda, as  ShondaLand ventures into the comedy arena.

Shonda will step into dramedy with what I think is the more compelling of the two shows, The Mix, which will explore the public and personal lives of 5 co-panelists on a The View-esque daytime talk show. It could be a fun watch for where fans of Grey’s Anatomy (and entertainment/broadcasting junkies like myself) could fill an empty time block. The Mix will also air on ABC.
