The 2010 MTV Movie Awards kicked off with a hilarious skit
that featured Tom Cruise as his Tropic Thunder alter-ego Les Grossman with Taylor Lautner and Robert Pattinson. The vampires from the Twilight saga made fun of their heartthrob images. Host Aziz Ansari from the NBC comedy Parks and Recreation also got in on the parody fun
before he officially arrived on stage, as he poked fun at both The Blind Side with Quinton Aaron and Justin Bieber with the teen sensation himself.
Twilight: New Moon was the big winner of the Golden Popcorn this year, with Kristen Stewart winning Best Female Performance, Robert Pattinson winning Best Male Performance and the Global Superstar award, and New Moon itself winning Best Movie. Like last year, when Edward and Bella won for Best Kiss, they teased the audience
as to whether or not they’d actually kiss. Last year they didn’t. This year, they didn’t either. Leading up the the Best Kiss was a Kiss Cam
that targeted Zac Efron and girlfriend Vanessa Hudgens, who, after sitting in surprise, were good sports. Get Him to the Greek costars Russell Brand and Jonah Hill also hilariously participated.
At the Movie Awards, actors often get in on the performances, so while Tom Cruise was still in his Les Grossman costume (the character was the producer of the show), he made an on-stage appearance that featured a surprise dance off with Jennifer Lopez
to her hit, “Get Right”. Katy Perry and Snoop Dogg performed Katy’s summer single “California Gurls”
with a neon color schemed set. The best musical performance of the night was Christina Aguilera. Singing a medley of songs
from her new album, Bionic, that featured glittery costumes with glowing hearts near the bikini region.
Notably apparent at this years show was the abundance of f- and s-bombs that the censors were too late to catch. As Eva Mendes, Samuel L. Jackson and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson presented the Best Villain Award, Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell hanged from ceiling wires, hilariously shouting expletives at the people onstage–even at Harry Potter’s Tom Felton
, who was a good sport.
Sandra Bullock won this year’s MTV Generation Award. She gave a speech that was both hilarious and sweet. At the end, she poked fun at the recent gossip surrounding her and shared a girl-on-girl kiss with Scarlett Johansson.
Other winners include: Best Breakout Star – Anna Kendrick (Up In the Air); Best Scared As S**t Performance – Amanda Seyfried (Jennifer’s Body); Best WTF Moment – Ken Jeong (The Hangover); Biggest Badass Star – Rain (Ninja Assassin); Best Comedic Performance – Zac Galifinakis (The Hangover).
As expected, Twilight swept as far as awards, but it was the censor-slipping, amazing performances, and impressive and hilarious hostmanship by Aziz Ansari that made the 2010 MTV Movie Awards so awesome.
