(Finally!!) ‘Dear John’ Tops ‘Avatar’ at Box Office

The power of preteen girl prevailed at the box office Friday. Lasse Hallstrom’s Dear John knocked James Cameron’s Avatar to the #2 spot on the teen flick’s opening day. The war time love story stars Channing Tatum (G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, Step Up) and Amanda Seyfried (Mama Mia, Mean Girls). The teen-girl flick is based on a book written by Nicholas Sparks (who also wrote The Notebook) grossed$13.6 million its first day, despite being panned by critics. Avatar fell 18% in earnings from last week and is now at the #2 spot in sales, taking in $6.2 million.

Well, it’s nice to see that Avatar isn’t still on top. I’m looking forward to seeing this love story when I get the chance. A futuristic love story among tribal blue people(ish) creatures isn’t something I can get into.

  1. I'd like to see this movie too! I love the song that's played in the tv spot. I'm glad that Avatar has been knocked off into the number 2 spot. People keep hyping it up, saying,"Oh you HAVE to go see it!" But it's just not that interesting.

Thoughts?
