In the vein of Screen Gems’ Think Like A Man, Fox Searchlight is in the process of casting for Baggage Claim, a romantic comedy based off David E. Talbert’s novel of the same name. Talbert is also writing and directing the film. Names already confirmed include Paula Patton in the lead role, Derek Luke, Octavia Spencer, and even Trey Songz! Tia Mowry Taye Diggs, Morris Chestnut, Lauren London, and Djimon Hounsou are all set to have roles in the film too. The synopsis is as follows:
Pledging to keep herself from being the oldest and the only woman in her entire family never to wed, Montana embarks on a thirty-day, thirty-thousand-mile expedition to charm a potential suitor into becoming her fiancé. Whom will she choose? Damon Diesel, a P. Diddy wannabe; Reverend Curtis P. Merewether, pastor of Greater House of Deliverance, Tabernacle of Praise, Worship, and Miracles; pompous attorney-turned-councilman Langston Jefferson Battle III; or Quinton Jamison, a multimillionaire who’s twenty years her senior?
I’m pleased to hear about the possibility of more movies that appeal to general audiences that feature and all-black cast. I really enjoyed Think Like A Man, and the late ’90s/early 2000s had many great films that anyone can find humor in – just so happened that the cast was all of color.
